On relations between Syria and Iraq
Syria-Iraq, Politics, 5/21/2001

The Jordanian daily al- Arab al-Youm ( Arab today) described the arrival of the Syrian diplomat Muhammad Hassan al-Tawab to Baghdad on Friday to chair the Syrian interests office there as a step revealing the development of relations between Syria and Iraq.

The paper said that this remarkable development in the march of the Iraqi- Syrian relations came after one year from the inauguration of the Iraqi interests office in Damascus, as expressing the desire of the two countries to expand the base of cooperation especially in the political field.

The paper added that al-Tawab has the rank of a commissioner minister and is accompanied by five Syrian diplomats and administrators and he will open the office next week and then meet with high ranking Iraqi officials to discuss with them means of expanding relations between the two states.
