Libyan, Cuban press statement
Libya-Cuba, Politics, 5/19/2001
Libya and Cuba have asserted their support for the Intifada of the Palestinian people and the establishment of the independent Palestinian state on the whole Palestinian territories and the return back of all Palestinian refugees.
In a press statement after the end of the visit made by the Cuban President Fidel Castro to Tripoli, the two countries urged the international community to put an end to the acts of violence, repression and mass annihilation conducted by Zionists against the Palestinian people.
The statement condemned the unilateral laws imposed by the UN against certain countries, and thereby violating international norms and charters, stressing the need of implementing the UN General Assembly resolutions to this effect and called for final and definite lifting of the measures imposed on Libya as a result of the Lockerbie issue and ending the sanctions imposed on Cuba.
The statement denounced the double standard policy pursued in dealing with human rights and in using it as a pressure means and blackmailing practiced against countries which refuse the imperialist hegemony.
The statement stressed the need of working to find out an international force able to carry out a role attaining balance and stability and releasing the world from hegemony in the international policy. The statement also expressed the support of the two countries on the importance of giving a pivot role to the UN General Assembly and canceling " the Veto."
The statement said that the two sides agreed to draw a mechanism to implement joint cooperation programs and to work for intensifying the efforts in order to create a world economic order that ensures justice and progress for people in confrontation of challenges resulting from globalization.
