Morocco has a key role to play for African renaissance, diplomat
Morocco-Regional, Politics, 5/18/2001
Morocco has a key role to play in the Renaissance of the African continent, new South African ambassador to Morocco, Mthuthuzeli Mpehle, Wednesday said.
"Given its history, its commitment in favor of the African causes and its economic and human potential, Morocco has a key role to play in the African Renaissance and in Africa's Millenium Plan," Mpehle, who readies to take up his post in Rabat, told MAP correspondent in Pretoria.
The diplomat voiced hope that Morocco joins the actors of the Plan, which is meant to be a means to spark Africa's economic and social development.
The Plan was launched by South Africa, Nigeria, Egypt, Algeria and Senegal. It is destined to eradicate pandemics and political instability in Africa and favor democracy and access to new information technologies.
The South African ambassador lauded the friendship ties binding King Mohammed VI and President Thabu Mbeki as well as the excellent cooperation ties between Morocco and South Africa.
