Syria, Russia sign a protocol on economic, trade and technical co-operation

The minister of the economy and foreign trade Muhammad al-Imadi and the Russian minister of industry, sciences and technologies on Thursday in Moscow signed the protocol of the second session of the Russian- Syrian joint committee which concluded its works in Moscow on Thursday in the presence of members of the two delegations and the Syrian ambassador in Moscow Wahib Fadel.
The Protocol stated consolidation of fields of cooperation between Russia and Syria in the cultural, trade, scientific, technical, economic, energy water projects, irrigation, land reclamation, oil industry and gas and transport areas.
The protocol also stated to take necessary measures in order to promote the exchange of trade exchange and expand them and to market fruits and vegetables and Syrian textile products and others produce in the Russian market. The two sides underlined the importance of trade areas in the two countries to developing exchanged trade.
In the area of oil and gas the protocol states the need of accelerating this sector in all trends especially in developing oil and gas fields in Syria, qualification of specialized cadres and developing scientific and technical co-operation in the geological field.
The protocol, on the other hand, said that the second session of the committee will be held in Damascus in the second half of next year 2002.
The two ministers also signed the executive program of the cultural and scientific cooperation agreement between the two countries for 2001-2003 which states cooperation in the areas of education, higher education, culture, the art, tourism, youths and sports.
