Algeria approves the foundation of the African parliament

Algeria on Wednesday ratified a protocol which provides for the foundation of an African parliament and therefore to be the third member in the African Unity Organization that approves this protocol after Namibia and Mali.
In a statement, the organization said that during a celebration held at the premises of the organization in Addis Ababa, Algeria's permanent representative to the Organization Ismael Sharqi signed the protocol, just one week after Namibia and Mali signed it.
Sharqi said that the African parliament will avail the opportunity for all African groups which are participating through their representatives to discuss basic matters including " smooth administration; democracy, and human rights."
The organization's secretary general Salim Ahmad Salim said that this future parliament will be an important tool for consultation to accelerate the activities of the African federation.
The founding statement of the African federation which will be implemented on May 26 states the establishment of an African economic group, a parliament and central Bank, a court and a Monetary Fund.
