Yemen intends to join the Gulf Cooperation Council states
Yemen-Gulf, Politics, 5/18/2001

The Yemeni foreign minister Abdullah al-Sayedi has stated that his country will join the membership of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). He described this council as the proper and healthy environment for Yemen, denying simultaneously any reservations in certain countries of the GCC to this effect.

The Yemeni official denied any Yemeni mediation between Iran and the UAE, stressing that the political leadership in Yemen spare no efforts in the attempt to convince the two countries to settle their disputes peacefully.

He explained that arbitration is " a civilized way that should be resorted to when reaching a bilateral agreement is ruled out."

He stressed that Iran's foreign minister has not proposed on the Yemeni leadership during his recent visit to Sanaa to mediate into this disputes.
