Conference on e-trade held in Tunis
Regional, Economics, 5/17/2001

A regional conference on e-trade was held in Tunis May 15-17 with the participation of Arab and foreign internet, economic and communication experts.

Participants from Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia and the US discussed boosting e-trade in the world as well as technical and applied application of e-trade.

Debates also covered legal aspects of e-trade, Arab countries experiences in e-trade, and ways to help spread e-trade at Arab and regional levels.

An expert from the Moroccan secretariat of state in charge of posts and information and telecommunications technologies, Abderrazak Mazini, told the conference that e-trade, which requires equipment and infrastructure, also requires an appropriate legal frame, standardized at the international scale.

The Moroccan expert surveyed the laws elaborated by the UN commission on international trade and said Morocco has integrated the principles of these implements in its related draft laws, after consultation with all involved sides (public, semi public and private sectors, magistrates, attorneys etc.). He also recalled that Morocco has organized a seminar on Morocco's e-trade strategy.

Morocco will host an international colloquium on e-trade in March 2002.
