Moroccan interior minister in Lisbon
Morocco-Portugal, Politics, 5/17/2001

Moroccan minister of the interior, Ahmed El Midaoui, arrived in Lisbon Wednesday evening on a work visit to Portugal at the invitation of his Portuguese peer, Nuno Sevriano Teixera.

El Midaoui, who is accompanied by a large delegations of senior officials of his department, will discuss with his Portuguese peer various aspects of bilateral cooperation, mainly the implementation of bilateral accords in civilian rescue operations and migratory flows.

El Midaoui is also expected to visit a Portuguese civilian rescue operations center.

The visit is taking place immediately after the end of the Moroccan-Portuguese high level meetings held May 15-16 in Lisbon under the co-chairmanship of the two countries' Prime Ministers, Abderrahmane youssoufi and Antonio Guterres.

The meetings highlighted by the signing of eight cooperation accords, including a 10-million Euro credit line, destined to the purchase by Moroccan small and medium enterprises of Portuguese goods and services and to the creation of Moroccan-Portuguese joint ventures.

The other accords deal with cooperation in culture, justice, scientific research, territorial development, consultation between the two countries foreign departments and recognition of driving licenses issued by either country.

Youssoufi flew back home Wednesday evening.
