Egypt calls on UN Security Council to take measures to stop violence
Egypt-Regional, Politics, 5/16/2001

Egypt called on the United Nations to play a main role in restoring calm and security in West Africa and advance humanitarian relief to it.

During the consultations of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Monday night, Egypt said the UN has to work on advancing the economies of the African continent and root out the reasons behind eruption of disputes.

Egypt's delegate to the UN, Ahmad Abul Gheit, said the situation in Sierra Leone, tension on Guinea-Liberia borders, and stepping up military attacks in Africa reached a level, requiring the International Community to double its efforts.
