The first museum for ancient currencies in Yemen

Yemen is intending to found the first specialized archaeological museum in ancient coins dealt with since the age of the state of Sabaa and Hemmyar before the Islamic conquest until the present time.

An official at the Yemeni central bank said that preparations are underway to officially open the museum in June and it will include samples for historical currencies used in Yemen throughout ages with the aim to highlight and focus on the identity of the nation and its historical, geographical, civilization and cultural traits through types of currencies in three historical phases starting with the Sabaa and Hemmyar age and passes through the Islamic age and ends with the modern times.

The museum will also dedicate several token golden, silver and bronze currencies that the Central Bank molded on the occasion of the first decade on the unification of the two parts of Yemen on May 22, 1990.
