Egypt, Economics, 5/15/2001
Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa met with visiting Director of the African Bank for Development ADB Omar Kabbaj.
In statements following the meeting, Kabbaj said he discussed with Moussa cooperation between Egypt and the bank, lauding ties as very good.
The Bank provides Egypt with investments worth more than $1.4 billion said the official. He added that they tackled the current Arab and African situation.
On the bank activities within the framework of COMESA gathering, the bank director said that the bank does not directly interfere in foreign trade but its activities are carried out as part of African regional merger.
He will meet with Prime Minister Atef Ebeid and Secretary General of the National Council for Women (NCW) Farakhanda Hassan on Tuesday.
Kabaj had conferred earlier in the day with Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade youssef Butros Ghali on funding investment projects of the private sector.
During the meeting, Ghali underlined the importance of small and medium-scale projects in providing job opportunities for youth.
On his part, the bank director said that Egypt has got the biggest share of the bank loans and facilities due to the signing of the first cooperation protocol between the bank and the 'Egyptian private sector and investors' associations in new cities.
