Maghreb Maritime Data Base to Be Set Up
Maghreb, Economics, 5/15/2001

The maritime committee of the Arab Maghreb Union (UMA) decided to launch a Maghreb data base in the field of maritime transport and ports in the UMA five member States.

The decision was made at the end of the 9th session of the committee held last week in Rabat with the participation of the union members, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and Mauritania.

The committee examined ways of revitalizing the Maghreb convention on maritime cooperation adopted by the Union's Steering Council in Libya in 1991.

The committee called Maghreban maritime companies to promote complementarity between the maritime lines they service and urged Maghreban countries to join efforts to struggle against sea pollution, exchange information on ships that do not meet security requirements and enhance cooperation between Maghreban fleets.
