Moroccan parties hold rally to back Palestinian people
Morocco-Palestine, Politics, 5/15/2001
The four Moroccan parties forming the Democratic Koutla (Arabic word for bloc) will hold a rally Thursday in Rabat to voice backing to the Palestinian people and the Palestinian national authority, on the occasion of the 53rd anniversary of the Nakba.
The decision was made Saturday during the Koutla periodical meeting that was attended by the leaders of the four parties, namely the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP), the Istiqlal Party (PI), the Party for Progress and Socialism (PPS) and the Organization for Democratic and Popular Action (OADP), a statement by the Koutla said.
The Koutla leadership examined the dangerous evolution of the Zionist aggression against the unarmed Palestinian people, the statement said.
Three of these four parties, namely the USFP, the PI and the PPS, are participating in the Moroccan coalition government.
Three Moroccan opposition parties gathered in another bloc "Wifaq" have released this Tuesday a statement calling Arab and Islamic governments to shoulder their "historic responsibility" and appealing for an international protection to the Palestinian people, prey to the "barbarous war" waged by Israel.
The Constitutional union (UC), the Popular movement (MP) and the Democrat National Party (PND) urged the governments of the free world to "intervene to compel Israel stop the slaughters and lift the closure of the Palestinian territories," and to enable Palestinian refugees return to their homeland.
The Wifaq parties vehemently condemned the liquidation policy pursued by the government of Ariel Sharon, "the butcher of Sabra and Chatila," and renewed total and unconditional backing to the struggle of the Palestinian people to recover their legitimate rights and establish an independent state with Al-Quds as its capital.
The three parties equally called for Israel's withdrawal from southern Lebanon and from the Golan heights in a bid to establish a fair, lasting peace in the region.
Several Moroccan papers of this Tuesday have called Arab states to foil the Israeli plans to liquidate the Palestinian people and to take firmer stands against "the Zionist policy."
