Al-Assad concludes successful visit to Oman

Syria's President Bashar al-Assad on Sunday returned back to Syria following a two-day visit to Oman. During this visit, al-Assad had discussed with Sultan Qabous Bin Saeed latest developments in the Middle East, ways to enhance and activate Arab solidarity and to support the Palestinian Intifada as well as bilateral relations between the two countries and means of expanding and furthering them. The Syrian foreign minister Farouk al-Shara and members of the delegation accompanying the President also returned back.
Earlier in the morning the president asserted Syria's commitment to international legitimacy resolutions and the Madrid terms of reference and the strong desire to attain a just and comprehensive peace in the ME region.
During his meeting on Sunday with the Arab ambassadors to Oman at al- Baraka Palace, his residence in Muscat, the president called for greater efforts in defense of Arab rights and in support of the Palestinian Intifada. he also called for reactivating the Arab public in support of joint Arab action.
Al-Assad also reiterated the importance of uniting Arab efforts, and of adherence to the points of agreement between the Arab states.
The latest developments in the region and the critical situation of the peace process as a result of Israel's anti- peace policy were the topics dealt with during the meeting which was attended by Foreign minister al-Shara and the Syrian ambassador to Oman Riad Na'san Agha.
Later in the afternoon, The President received a delegation representing the Syrian community in Oman. The President was briefed on the Syrian community's circumstances and activities.
He called on the community to be the good representatives of their homeland and to do their best in order to consolidate Syrian- Omani relations in all areas.
Al-Assad also paid a visit to the " Sultan Qabous the Greater Mosque" in Muscat and listened to explanation on the Mosque's architectures and the story of its construction.
