Vedrine: Europe has not played a serious role in the ME peace process
Palestine-European Union, Politics, 5/14/2001

The French foreign minister Hubert Vedrine has admitted that Europe has not played a serious role in the Middle East peace process.

In a statement to the French daily "Le Point," broadcast by the Monte Carlo radio on Sunday, Vedrine said that the situation in the Middle East is passing a critical phase, showing understanding for the continued operations and the Palestinian Intifada in the occupied territories. He said it is difficult for the Palestinian Authority to order the halt of such a historical conflict or the historical resistance in case no clear solutions are attained.

Vedrine noted the efforts made by the former US administration chaired by Bill Clinton to find out a solution for the situation in the Middle East. He added "Clinton has made an effort in solving the crisis more than any other former US President."
