Islamic labor front in Jordan
Jordan, Politics, 5/14/2001

The Islamic labor front party in Jordan, the largest party in the Jordanian arena, has expressed its strong denunciation and condemnation to the policy pursued by the Jordanian government which prevented by force on Friday the organization of two speech rallies in " Souyagh" area in the heart of the capital Amman on the occasion of the usurpation of Palestine.

In a statement issued on Saturday in Amman, the party described the policy pursued by the government as contradicting with all charters and laws and called for punishing those who are responsible for the decision to prevent solidarity festivals with the Palestinian people and their Intifada. The statement also called for the resignation of the government of Ali Abu al-Ragheb which is described by the party's statement as bringing the country into a crisis.

The statement stressed the party's natural right to self- expression and its determination to continue this expression by all means in defense of Jordan's dignity and interests and in support of the Palestinians.

The statement said that large security forces equipped by all sorts of weapons besieged the place dedicated for the two festivals before the date of convening them and then dispersed the citizens who came to attend by means offorce as many of them were harassed especially the party's secretary general Abdul latif Arabeyat and several members of the party's leadership and the Islamic movement and tens were admitted to hospital and a large number of the participants were arrested regardless to their scientific degrees or political or social position.
