More killings in Somalia
Somalia, Politics, 5/14/2001

At least 26 persons were killed and other 50 were wounded in clashes between the militias of the provisional national government in Somalia led by Abdul Qasem Salaad Hassan and the forces in support of the leader of the opposition group Muhammad Hussein Aideed in a deserted port in the downtown of the capital Makadishu.

News reports quoted eye-witnesses as saying that fighting erupted on Friday afternoon when Aided responded to a call advocated by former military men in Somalia to meet in the deserted port which is close to its headquarters, but the reason behind the call for the meeting was not known yet.

The eye-witnesses added that armed men from Suleiman group who guard the port since the beginning of the 1990 s who support the current government exchanged change fire with Aideed forces.
