Two Iraqi ships held at al-Fujeira port
United Arab Emirates-Iraq, Politics, 5/12/2001
The United Arab Emirates UAE daily al-Itihad said on its Friday's issue that two Iraqi ships were held at al-Fujeira port carrying 4,000 tons of smuggled heavy oil.
The paper added that the two ships were cordoned by plastic barriers for fears of oil leakage, waiting the decision of the UAE ministry to empty the two ships.
The two ships are old and allocated to transport commodities. They do not carry international certificates. The first ship carried Cameroon flags and the second is that of Honduras.
These measures were taken in implementation of the decision of the UAE ministerial committee taken when the Iraqi ship " Zeinab" drowned, loaded with 1300 tons of oil. A matter which resulted in oil leakage and the emergence of an environmental problem.
