On the meeting of the Arab- boycott office of Israel
Regional-Israel, Economics, 5/12/2001

The United Arab Emirates daily al-Khaleij said on Friday that several Arab states did not refuse the convening of the meeting of the Arab- boycott office of Israel, but considered that postponing convening the meeting for a while under the pretext to give Israel more exerted time to halt the tension in the region and to resume peace negotiations.

Diplomatic sources at the Arab League considered in statements to the paper that convening the meeting at this time might increase the Israeli violence against the Palestinian people, and also under the pretext not to provoke the US or permitting the failure of Arab efforts made to convince it to get involved in the peace efforts.

The sources explained that Arab League member states called for convening the office's meeting with those who already agreed, but remarked not to be enthusiastic for such a call so as to prevent a split in the Arab position.
