Iraq wants its money to pay the UN dues
Iraq, Politics, 5/12/2001
Iraq has asked the UN on Thursday to allocate a sum of $ 15 million of its oil revenues to pay debts accumulated on it to the UN.
News reports quoted the Iraqi ambassador to the UN Muhammad al- Douri as saying in a message to the UN Chief Kofi Annan that there is a sum of $ 500 million at Iraq's account of the UN Oil-For-Food program and the Iraqi debts to the UN should be paid from this sum.
He said that the decision adopted by the UN in December 2000 permits Iraq to use this sum to pay its debts but this matter was obstructed in an oppressive way.
He accused the US of imposing a media, economic, military and political siege on Baghdad and using all means to prevent Iraq from using its oil revenues.
Worthy mentioning that Iraq is permitted to sell oil in the course of the UN Oil-For-Food program.
