Arafat asks International Socialist to work to end Israeli aggressions
Palestine-Morocco, Politics, 5/11/2001
President Yasser Arafat of Palestine has asked vice-chairman of the International Socialist (IS), Abderrahmane Youssoufi, to intervene with the IS member countries so that they work to put an end to the Israeli occupation forces' aggression against the Palestinian people.
The request came in a message that ambassador of Palestine to Rabat, Abu Marwane, handed over to Youssoufi, Morocco's Premier and first secretary of the Socialist Union of Popular forces (USFP).
In his message, Arafat expounded "the developments of the Palestinian cause and the savagery of the aggression waged by the Israeli government against the Palestinian people inside the territories under Palestinian authority," the ambassador told the Moroccan TV channel 2M Thursday evening.
"The aggressors demolish houses, destroy orchards and perpetrate slaughters that spare no one, no even infants," the message said.
Abu Marwane recalled that "the USFP has always initiated moves with European socialist parties and on the international scene to mobilize the public opinion, glean support to the Palestinian cause and face the Zionist campaigns staged in Europe against the Palestinians' rights."
At least 409 Palestinians have been killed since the Palestinian Al-Aqsa intifadah broke out more than seven months ago.
