Meeting with Mubarak useful, very positive

Jean Gendois, Chairman of the French Suez Water Company's Board of Directors and Head of the French side in the projected French University in Egypt, described his meeting with President Hosni Mubarak as useful and very positive.

"President Mubarak showed special interest that the new university would focus on technological aspects and (high level) training courses for engineers and technicians commensurate with Egypt's needs," said Gendois.

"The university, which will be erected at AL Shorouq city, has to have a continuous financial support of LE 20-22 million annually," he said, noting that LE 10 million of the sum were secured, 60% from Egyptian companies and 40% from French companies.

Gendois expressed optimism over support for the university by presidents Mubarak and Jacques Chirac, adding that the study will focus on improvement of financial management in accordance with companies and plants' requirements in Egypt as well as information, communications, languages and translation.

"The upcoming stage will witness cooperation with the Egyptian Electricity Authority (EEA) in the fields of electricity and energy as well as cooperation with the private sector in setting up power stations through the BOT system,' he said.

Gendois also referred to a project on the treatment of waste in the govern orate of Qalyubia.
