Pakistan supports Jerusalem as Palestine's capital
Palestine-Pakistan, Politics, 5/9/2001

Pakistan Tuesday said the status of Jerusalem has to be preserved and it has voted in favor of the United Nations resolutions opposing any change in the status of this holy city.

Foreign Office spokesman Riaz Muhammad Khan made these comments in response to a question at a press briefing, reported the Pakistani news agency APP.

He said Pakistan's own position is that Jerusalem has to become capital of the Palestinian state. "Even in the context of UN resolutions, the status of Jerusalem has to be preserved and not be changed by any measure including shifting of world's capitals there."

He said Pakistan has always condemned Israeli violence against Palestinians and supported the Palestinians' inalienable right to self-determination. He said Islamabad has also called for an end to Israeli violence so that the peace process could be restarted.
