Ten Arab states call for end to Israeli aggressions against palestinians
Palestine-Regional, Politics, 5/9/2001

Ten Arab-Mediterranean countries have urged the international community and especially European countries to shoulder their responsibility and to take urgent action to put an end to Israeli aggressions against the Palestinian people.

The call was launched in a communique, released by the foreign ministers of Morocco, Egypt, Jordan, Tunisia, Libya, Algeria, and Mauritania and the representatives of Syria, Lebanon and Palestine at the end of a meeting here Tuesday that was devoted to the setting up of a free trade zone between Arab-Mediterranean countries.

The foreign ministers and representatives of the ten countries have called for an action at the international scale so that the security council shoulder its responsibility in protecting the Palestinian people in order to secure stability in the region and establish a fair, comprehensive and lasting peace in the region.

They said the establishment of peace in the Middle East depends on the implementation of the UN resolutions, including the resolution on the Palestinian refugees' right to return to their homeland, the withdrawal of the Israeli army from the occupied Arab territories, and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Al-Quds as its capital.

The countries participating in the meeting discussed the deteriorating living conditions of the Palestinian populations, in view of the Israeli daily aggressions against the territories under Palestinian authority, said the communiqu?.

The Israeli aggression targets all Palestinian economic and productive structures, the communique said before denouncing the blockade imposed on Palestinian cities, countryside and camps in a bid to cripple economic activity in the autonomous territories and deprive the Palestinian populations even from the drugs and basic products that used to enter the territories across borders with Jordan and Egypt.
