Egyptian-Libyan committee probes investment, trade cooperation

"Libyan Revolution Leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi received a message from President Hosni Mubarak," Information Minister Safwat El-Sherif said late Tuesday.

Prime Minster Atef Ebeid delivered the message during his meeting with Gaddafi, Sherif said in statements following the meeting.

Mubarak's message addressed the situation in the Middle East and the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian territories, he added.

"The message also tackled the outcome of contacts with the parties concerned and reactions to the floated Egyptian-Jordanian Peace initiative," said El Sherif.

President Mubarak updated, in his message, Gaddafi on the outcome of his latest meetings in Sharm El-Sheikh with king Abdullah II of Jordan and Palestinian President Yasser Arafat, he added.

Secretary General of the People's committee Mubarak Abdullah Al-shamikh attended the meeting.

Gaddafi also received members of the Egyptian delegation to the meetings of the joint Egyptian -Libyan higher Committee.

"He called on the Egyptian and Libyan delegations to the committee meetings to work jointly in a bid to serve the best interests of both countries," said Sherif.

The meeting also dealt with the directives of both Mubarak and Gaddafi with regard to joint action in the various domains on all levels, he added.

"Gaddafi stressed that both parties should benefit from available potentials in Egypt and Libya," Sherif said.

The issues to figure high on the agenda of the joint' committee meeting were discussed by Ebeid and shamikh, he added.

Upon directives from Mubarak and Gaddafi, the two officials' voiced keenness on activating already-signed agreements between Egypt and Libya.

"Ebeid and Shamikh also went over the possibility of investing the surplus of products in both countries in both markets, especially in the field of medicines, "said Sherif.

During the meeting Gadaafi asserted the importance of the African union, being a starting point to integration between Egypt and Libya, he added.

"Following the plenary meeting, Gaddafi asked Ebeid to convey a message to president Mubarak," said El Sherif.

"Gaddafi's message and Mubarak's to him assert that the two leaders were eager to exchange views with regard to Arab and African issues," according to sherif.
