New university to focus on engineering, computers and information systems

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has expressed his full support for the establishment of the French university in Egypt saying specializations of the university will be determined according to the needs of the market.
He said the new university will keep away from conventional studies and will focus on the fields of engineering, technology, computers, information systems, and hotel management and other modern specializations needed by Egypt.
This came during President Mubarak meeting in Sharm EL Sheikh yesterday with Jean Gendois, the chairman of the Egypt-based French university's friends association.
Minister of Higher Education Mofid Shehab and French ambassador in Cairo Francois Dopffer attended the meeting.
Gendois said that the meeting with President Mubarak tackled setting up the French university in Egypt.
"We are working with the Egyptian side to speed up establishment of the university and hoping that construction works would begin next October ," said Gendois, adding his group has got full support from President Mubarak.
Shehab pointed out that the idea to set up a French university began three years ago when some Egyptian businessmen thought about building a university in which youths receive education in French.
He said the new university would be established on an area of 100 Feddans in AL Shrouq City, adding that according to plan of action study is to start in the university in October 2002.
He said legal measures for establishing the company that would be in charge of setting up the university have been launched.
Egyptian share will account for 51% whereas the French share accounts for 49% of the capital that is valued at 100 million dollars.
