European sources: Sharon prepares for war

The Kuwaiti daily al-Seyasah issued in Kuwait on Monday quoted well-informed European sources as saying that following the change in the French attitude, the looseness of the Russian position and the internal split in Lebanon, the Israeli prime minister is preparing to launch a limited war against Syria.

The European diplomatic and intelligence reports said that Sharon is playing a counter balance operation built on a prevailing conviction in that the Israeli forces were pulled out from South Lebanon because of the attacks of the Hizbullah party and that Sharon came to erase this "wrong image " which also encouraged the flaring up of the Palestinian Intifada.

A French intelligence report from Tel Aviv said that Sharon's game which is built on eliminating fears from the heart of the Israelis in case of a war to be erupted by Israel against Syria can be put as follows: -Egypt which is the most important Arab country is obliged not only to the Camp David treaty with Israel, rather with her own interests with the Americans and the Europeans, and therefore it will not back Syria, only the same way it supports the Palestinians, by denouncing or condemnation.

-Jordan which has signed a similar peace treaty with Israel is not ready to violate this treaty for several reasons, including weakness of its military force; and Lebanon which will be the first theatre for such a war before it will move to Syria will be divided internally between those who support Syria or those not.

The paper concluded that the Israeli military preparations reveal that Sharon has guaranteed results of his political game, but international experts believe that such a game will not only explode the region surrounding Israel, but also the whole region until the Arab oil states.
