Illiteracy and mutilation in Sudan

Illiteracy among children in Sudan who are above 6 year old reached 34% for males and 51% among females.
A study prepared by the central bureau for Statistics held in Khartoum in collaboration with the UNICEF said that there is a balance in the population in Sudan between males and females and the study showed that each 960 men stand 1000 women.
Another statistics conducted by the Sudanese ministry of health, prepared in collaboration with the UNFPA and the central bureau for statistics said that a high rate of girls "(female) mutilation " operations so far reached in Khartoum province 91.2 %.
Experts in this regard stressed the need of eliminating this phenomenon which is considered a violation to the agreement on the right of the Child. They called for immediate reporting about such cases to specialized authorities.
Meantime, the Sudanese TV had made an interview with several Muslim scholars and doctors in which they stressed the grave consequences of the "mutilation " operation on girls and called for halting them.
