Egypt, Libya plan to activate economic agreements and protocols

Preparatory meetings of the Egyptian -Libyan Higher Committee kicked off in Tripoli under Co-Chairmanship of Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Ahmed AL Darsh and AL Ojaili Abdel Salam Brini, Secretary of the Libyan People's Committee for Finance.

The two-day meetings will discuss issues and protocols that will be referred to the seventh session of the Joint Higher Committee.

The Higher Committee will meet under Co-Chairmanship of Prime Minister Atef Ebeid and Engineer Mubarak AL Shamekh, Secretary of the Libyan People's Committee.

They will discuss activating the agreements and protocols signed between the two states, cooperation in various domains, especially in the fields of construction, contracting, media, culture and power grids.

The meeting will also deal with the possibility of extending a gas pipe between the two counties and establishing a network for exporting the Egyptian gas to the neighboring countries across Libya.

The Egyptian -Libyan talks will tackle possibility of concluding unprecedented agreements with the private sector, including the flow of commodities between the two countries without obstacles in the way that would increase the volume of investments between the two countries in the coming stage.

"On his part, Minister of Immigration Ahmed Amawi said that the two sides would sign during the committee a protocol on technical cooperation by the labor ministries in order to exchange expertise in safety systems and vocational health fields," said Amawi.

The committee will also discuss the conditions of the Egyptian workers in Libya and ways to settle their problems in light of a vocational cooperation agreement signed between Egypt and Libya in 1995, he added.
