NAM Palestine panels backs Jordanian Egyptian initiative
Palestine-Regional, Politics, 5/5/2001

The final statement of the Non-Aligned Movement Palestine committee voiced full support for the Jordanian-Egyptian initiative to end violence in the occupied Palestinian land and resume peace talks. The statement, issued at the end of the two-day meeting in South Africa, hailed efforts exerted by the nonaligned member states of the Security council, to set up a mechanism to help attain these and forming an international force to provide protection for Palestinians.

The statement called for halting Israel's excessive violence against Palestinians and ending all acts of Israeli collective punishment against the Palestinians. The statement, moreover, demanded cessation of Jewish settlements construction for being a violation of the international law.
