20,000 Arabs die in car accidents every year

A total of 20,000 people die in traffic accidents in the Arab states every year in addition to nearly 200,000 wounded, said a report by the Arab interior ministers council.
The Kuwaiti news agency which reported the news said the report was released Wednesday by the council's secretariat on the occasion of the Arab traffic week.
According to the report, 80 percent of these accidents are caused by human mistakes, 5.5 percent by technical failures of cars, five percent due to bad conditions of roads, five percent due to bad weather and 4.5 percent for other reasons.
According to the world health organization, traffic accidents claim 700,000 lives annually or one death every 50 second in addition to more than 20 million injuries or one injury every two second, said KUNA.
