Morocco hails UN secretary general's world peace efforts
Morocco, Politics, 5/3/2001

Morocco has hailed the tireless efforts made by UN Secretary General, kofi Annan, in favor of world peace and stability.

This came during a courtesy visit Morocco's permanent representative to the UN, Mohamed Bennouna, made to Annan in New York Wednesday.

During the tete-a-tete talks, Bennouna conveyed the thanks of King Mohammed VI to the UN Secretary General for his tireless efforts in favor of world peace and stability, a source from Morocco's permanent mission here said.

The two sides surveyed a number of issues of mutual concern, mainly the situation in Africa and the UN coming conferences on least developed countries, on climate change, childhood and racism.

The Moroccan diplomat renewed Morocco's resolve to contribute to the success of these conferences and congratulated Annan for the unanimous backing expressed to his candidacy for a second term at the head of the UNO.

The Security Council permanent members and several regional groups at the UN have already announced support for Annan to serve a second term as UN secretary General.
