Syria-Egypt, Politics, 5/2/2001

The Egyptian foreign minister Amr Moussa has described his talks with President Bashar al-Assad as very important and very good and as drastically needed.

Before he left Damascus on Tuesday, Moussa said that the Arab follow up and ministerial committee will hold a meeting as soon as possible to discuss developments and changes taking place in the region in order to reach the needed coordination. Moussa underlined the importance of this committee by saying:" it is a very important committee in being a mechanism to react towards events taking place and that this committee meets in the name of all Arab states," describing its coming meeting as very important.

Moussa left Damascus on Tuesday afternoon following a visit to Syria which lasted for two days during which he held talks with President Bashar al-Assad and the foreign minister Farouk al-Shara'. At Damascus airport he was seen off by the deputy foreign minister Suleiman Haddad and the Egyptian ambassador in Damascus.
