Annan confers with Peres

The UN secretary general Kofi Annan on Monday evening met in New York with the Israeli foreign minister Shimon Peres who arrived to the US earlier in the day in a visit which will last for several days.
News reports said that the meeting which lasted for one hour dealt with the tense conditions in the occupied Palestinian territories and the taken Israeli measures against the Palestinians and means of alleviating these measures.
Following the meeting, Peres said that Israel prefers not to give the US nor others any role in the negotiations process with the Palestinians.
