Missions from central American countries in Morocco over coming months
Morocco, Politics, 5/1/2001

Delegations from several central American countries will visit Morocco over the coming months to consolidate ties between the kingdom and these countries.

The schedule of these visits was disclosed during the 10-day tour Morocco's Ambassador to Mexico, Mohamed Ayachi, paid to Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica, at the end of his mission as non-resident ambassador to these countries.

The delegations will be headed by foreign ministers and include speakers of parliaments, businessmen and Morocco's honorary consuls.

The delegation from El Salvador will visit Morocco next September, that from Guatemala in October and that from Costa Rica in November.

The Delegations from Honduras and Nicaragua will visit Morocco in March and April 2002.

In El Salvador, the Moroccan diplomat also conferred with secretary general of the Integration System of central America, Oscar Santamaria, on cooperation between Morocco and central American countries on the one hand and between Morocco and the integration system of central America (SICA) on the other and invited him to visit Morocco.

SICA musters besides the five central American countries (Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica), Panama and Belize and the Dominican Republic as an observer member.

All these countries have withdrawn recognition of the so-called Sahrawi republic, self-proclaimed by the Polisario which is claiming the independence of Morocco's southern provinces.
