Israeli ŠTurkish joint exercises
Israel-Turkey, Military, 5/1/2001
Turkish and Israeli naval and air military units have started joint exercises at Aksar naval base on the Mediterranean which will last until May 4.
The Turkish daily Millet said that " these maneuvers differ from previous ones which used to be held just for research and rescue works, as they aim to make training on a real war." Taking part in these maneuvers are three Israeli warship and one warplane belong to the Israeli war fleet.
This is the first maneuver to be held between the two sides without the participation of the US. Turkey, Israel and America are holding joint maneuvers annually since 1998, under the name the " bride of the sea " ( Arous al-Baher ).
