Six Palestinians killed, two houses destroyed
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 5/1/2001

Six palestinian youths were killed on Monday and many others wounded and two houses were completely destroyed in two strong explosions that took place on Monday in Ramullah at Omar al-Mukhtar street in Gaza and Ramullah of two explosive implanted by the Israeli occupation forces.

The Israeli soldiers opened fire randomly at Arab youths near an Israeli military barrier, near Habla village in Nablus, while an Israeli car was exposed to fire in Qabatia after its passengers provoked the Arab citizens. One Israeli woman settler was wounded when she was attacked by an unidentified youth in " Ghaneim" settlement in Gaza.

In the course of the detention and arrests campaigns carried out by the Israeli forces against the Palestinians, two Palestinian security men were arrested in al-Jalazoun camp, the district of Ramullah. They are Abdul Baset al- bayyad and ramzi Alyan. The two Palestinian youths Mihraj Shehadah and Ghanem Ghanem were arrested after they were wounded in the confrontation with an Israeli patrol in Toulkarem.

Meantime, Palestinian officials said that the Israeli army did not alleviate the siege on Gaza, despite the statements made by the Israeli foreign minister on alleviating such measures.

Eye- witnesses said that the Israeli army's tanks are still deployed on the cross-road in the main roads in Gaza and the cement blocs are still installed in the main streets as well as branch ones, while the Palestinian fishermen are still banned from practicing their works and they are exposed to the fire of the Israeli forces whenever they try to approach the coast.

Meantime, the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon renewed the rejection of his government to hold negotiations with the Palestinian side unless the Intifada is completely halted.

Sharon set a precondition during his meeting with the official in charge of the foreign and security policy department at the European Union Javier Solana, a longer test period for halting the Intifada, claiming that Israel will take the decision to resume the negotiations, according to the developments on reality.

Meantime, the government of Sharon has started a political and media campaign to show that the Palestinians do not want peace and that they are escalating the situation in the occupied palestinian territories.

The Israeli minister of the infrastructure Evet Liebrman called for halting all contacts with the Palestinians, because, as he claimed are not partners in the peace process.

Liberman said the government of Sharon has to set its political trend, towards not having a Palestinian partner to continue the negotiations, and at the same time stipulates the halting of the Palestinian Intifada.

However, the Palestinian People's Resistance Committees, which the palestinian authority have recently solved, vowed to continue the struggle against the Israeli occupation.

The secretary of the Fatah movement Marwan al-Barghouthi in the West Bank said he is not satisfied with the decision of the Palestinian Authority, stressing that these committees will continue their struggle until ending the Israeli occupation.
