Kuwaiti denies mediation to reconcile with Iraq
Kuwait-Iraq, Politics, 5/1/2001

The Kuwaiti minister of state for foreign affairs Muhammad Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah on Monday denied any sort of secret negotiations between Iraq, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia concerning reconciliation with Iraq.

In a seminar held in Kuwait organized by member of the Kuwaiti Nation's Council ( parliament) Walid al-Tabta', al-Sabah said " I have not heard of this attitude and it is groundless. He said that Iraq even boycotts meetings of the Geneva's committee ( concerning prisoners and the missing of wars between Iraq and Kuwait).

This was in reply to what was published by one of the Kuwaiti local dailies quoting news agencies that there are secret contacts being made indirectly carried out by Baghdad with Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

Muhammad stressed that Kuwait calls on all Arab states to stand by it in regard to humanitarian issues especially the question of Kuwaiti prisoners held in the Iraqi jails and the question of dismantling mass- annihilation weapons.

He explained that the mass destruction weapons for Kuwait is a question of life and death and not a political question. He noted that one bomb like that was dropped at ( Halabja ) ( the Kurdish village in Iraq which the Iraqi authorities bombed with forbidden gas ) may bombard half of Kuwait.
