Mubarak hails role of Egyptian workers in accelerating development
Egypt, Economics, 4/30/2001

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said Monday that Egypt will continue its plans to achieve further economic and political reforms.

In a speech marking labour day the President said that political reform requires that the political parties play their role in deepening democratic practices as well as opening up more opportunities for the younger generations to enable them shoulder their responsibilities. President Mubarak said that the use of the most up-to-date technology has become necessary to upgrade the state's institutions so as to be able to compete in international markets.

This, Mubarak said, demands greater efforts to train the labour force in order to raise the standard of their performance.

President Mubarak hailed the role of Egyptian workers in achieving economic reform as well as in executing major national projects in Toshka, the Gulf of Suez and alongside the Red Sea.

The President underlined the importance of the private sector role in accelerating the pace of economic development and called for further encouragement for entrepreneurs in order to create more job opportunities.

Mubarak regretted that despite the reduction in the average number of family members, overpopulation was still impeding the development process.

Turning to the situation in the Middle East, President Mubarak described it as tough and dangerous due to the Israeli government's insistence on broadening the scope of its acts of aggression and extending it to Syria and Lebanon.

Mubarak warned of the consequences of such trend and called on Israel to return to peace negotiations and to abide by international legitimacy resolutions and pull back to the 4th of June 1967 borders in order to achieve security and stability in the region.

President Mubarak said," we are confident of our ability to achieve a comprehensive and just peace against the will of those, who believe that only force could enable them to achieve security."
