Japanese experts call for promoting the role of private sector

A Japanese industrial expert called on the Egyptian government to pay more attention to the private industrial sector.

At a seminar, held Saturday in Cairo, on industrialization strategy in Egypt the Japanese expert stressed the need to activate national industries and help map out a strategy that aims at exporting products to foreign markets.

He stressed the importance of continued and renewed technological innovation to catch up with world development in this field, Continuation of technological modernization is an important factor in defining the state's economic and social course, he added.

At this seminar co-organized by the Jpanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the General Industrialization Authority, he asserted the necessity of boosting scientific research and modernization activities to achieve a sustainable industrial development.

JICA deputy representative in Egypt said in an address to the seminar that development of industry is a major challenge for Egypt under globalization economies.

The Japanese government is keen on boosting the Egyptian industry's competitiveness and increasing industrial exports to foreign markets, he added.

JICA efforts to foster Egyptian industry are diversified in a number of sectors through training programmes. transfer of technological expertise and cooperation in infrastructure fields and industrial equipment, he said.

He referred to a number of joint projects mainly E1-Ferdan ferry on the Suez Canal and some industrial projects covering various industrial sectors.

Addressing the seminar, former chairman of the Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI) Adel Gazareen said that Egypt is in dire need of developing its national industry and possessing a clear-cut strategy that secures this objective.

He called for concentrating on industries that the local market needs and which are capable of competing at both local and foreign levels. He stressed the necessity of promptly mapping out such strategy.
