A nearby Amnesty expected in Jordan
Jordan, Politics, 4/30/2001

High ranking Jordanian parliamentary sources said that the Jordanian prime minister Ali Abu al-Ragheb had asked the study of a special Amnesty list which was proposed by the public freedoms committee at the Jordanian parliament to pardon some 298 who are sentenced in various cases.

The sources added that specialized official sides are currently embarking on studying and listing cases and getting acquainted with the prevailing condition of each case separately in order to study the file of the general amnesty.

The chairman of the public freedoms committee Muhammad al-Azedah said that the few coming weeks will witness a positive development to this effect. He noted that there is a second list including the names of 40 to 50 convicted persons to be submitted to the prime minister, and will be added to the original list of convicted persons who are expected to be released.
