Moussa rules out economic summit, confirms conference
Egypt-Regional, Economics, 4/28/2001
Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa ruled out holding of an Arab economic summit soon in Cairo, pointing out that an economic conference will rather be held in Cairo as agreed in the latest Arab Summit in Amman.
In an interview with the Kuwaiti Az-Zaman weekly magazine, Moussa said the conference aims at bringing businessmen and representatives of private sector from the whole world face to face with their Arab counterparts in order to further cooperation.
On the Arab League and his selection as its forthcoming secretary-general, Moussa said that everybody knows how difficult things are in the Arab League despite all the efforts exerted to make it a real regional organisation.
He stressed respect for the Arab League to defend Arab interests and live up to the responsibilities ahead of it.
Moussa highlighted the urgent need to amend the Arab League charter to render its resolutions binding for all members.
