Chamber of advisors decries Israeli barbarous aggressions against Palestinian people
Morocco-Palestine, Politics, 4/27/2001
The chamber of advisors, upper house of the Moroccan parliament, decried Thursday "the barbarous and annihilating aggressions perpetrated by Zionist forces against the Palestinian people" and called the UN Security Council to ensure the protection of civilians in the occupied territories.
This came in a final statement issued at the end of a special session on the explosive situation in the Middle East following the daily repression against the Palestinian people and the attacks against Lebanese territories and Syrian forces deployed in Lebanon.
These events, the final statement said, "clearly evidence the Zionist enemy's determination to undermine all attempts meant to establish a fair and lasting peace in the region."
The session was attended by Moroccan Premier, Abderrahmane Youssoufi, members of the Moroccan cabinet and the Arab diplomatic corps accredited to Rabat.
The chamber voiced "deep consternation" over "the Israeli barbarous acts" and renewed backing to the Palestinian people as well as to all initiatives made by Palestinian leaders to establish an independent Palestinian state with Al-Quds as its capital.
The chamber called the UN security council to dispatch an international force to protect the civilians in the occupied territories and convened to summon an emergency meeting of the Arab parliamentary union to examine the latest developments of the Palestinian cause.
The chamber also hailed the key role played by King Mohammed VI at the head of the Al-Quds committee, whose resolutions and initiatives contributed to fostering awareness to the need to back the Palestinians, prey to blockades and starvation. It also hailed the sovereign's decision to close the Israeli liaison bureau in Morocco and his statement denouncing the Israeli aggressions against the Palestinian people and the holy shrines in Al-Quds.
During the session, heads of parliamentary groups denounced the double-standard policy adopted by world powers and by the European countries member of the Security Council during the vote on a resolution related to the dispatching of a force to protect the Palestinians.
They called for dispatching an independent fact-finding mission to investigate the massacres against the Palestinians and try those responsible of slaughters.
The Moroccan advisors also voiced solidarity with Syria and Lebanon and called for the Israeli withdrawal from all occupied Arab territories.
