Arab-Sat board meets in Nouakchott, Syria is absent

The board of the Arab Satellite company ( Arab-Sat.) has been holding its meeting since Tuesday in Nouakchott without the presence of Syria, who apologized for not attending, as said the organizers of this event.
The board of this Arab establishment which was established in 1976 to coordinate inter- Arab contacts via satellites in each of " Mauritania, Syria, Saudi Arabia. Libya Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan and Egypt." The meeting discusses the company's financial conditions and the possibility of enlarging its work range to include profitable trade operations, as stated by Arab- Sat. board chairman Muhammad Saad Shahri ( of the Saudi nationality).
Arab-Sat. which also holds it general assembly in Nouakchott on April 28 and 29 attained a net profit estimated at $ 47 million for the year 2000.
The company includes the 22- Arab states member at the Arab league. It has three satellites and two land stations to observe and monitor air transmission, one is in al-Riyadh and the other is in Tunisia.
