Contacts to convene an urgent meeting for the Damascus boycott office
Regional-Israel, Economics, 4/25/2001
News reports in Egypt indicated on Tuesday " intensive contacts " underway to convene an urgent meeting very soon for the Arab boycott office of Israel in Damascus despite the American pressures to prevent the revival of the Arab Ð boycott as a "weapon" against Israel.
The reports quoted diplomatic sources at the Arab League as saying that " the meeting will discuss a work plan to revitalize the Arab resolutions, especially recent resolutions released by the Amman's recent Arab summit concerning the Arab boycott of Israel.
The reports continued that these efforts are being made by the Arab League general secretariat in coordination with the boycott office which takes Damascus as a headquarters.
Just one day after the recent Amman's Arab summit, the US under secretary of state Edward Walker said " we strongly oppose any renewal of the ( Arab) boycott of Israel and we will work for preventing such an activity which only leads to the escalation of conditions."
