Jordan-Israel, Economics, 4/25/2001

The Jordanian minister of industry and trade Wasef Azar has explained that extending work in the trade agreement signed with Israel is a routine measure which is spontaneously renewed every year unless one of the two sides objects such an extension.

In statements to the Jordanian daily al-Dostour issued on Tuesday, Azar added that an important part of trade between the two countries is made through al-Hassan industrial city.

On the other hand, several Jordanian sides have denied the exportation of Israeli fruits and vegetables to Kuwait, via Jordan. This was expressed in special statements published by the Jordanian daily al-Arab al- Youm on Tuesday.

Meantime, the secretary general of the Jordanian ministry of commerce and industry Samer al-Tawil has ruled out Jordan to have had exported Israeli fruits and vegetables to Kuwait, stressing that his ministry and the ministry of Agriculture ban the re-exportation of Israeli commodities via Jordan to the countries which do not deal with Israel.

For his part, the deputy chairman of fruits and vegetables traders and exporters in Jordan Nabil al-Haj Ateyah has denied the exportation of vegetable and fruits of the Israeli origin to Kuwait. But he did not rule out that few shipments of Israeli fruits and vegetables to had been exported within fruits shipments of Palestinian origin.

The Jordanian daily added that land customs inspectors had seized 13 Jordanian trucks loaded with Israeli fruits and vegetables when these trucks entered Kuwait from al-Salemi border opening to the Southern West of Kuwait, adjoining the Saudi al-Raqee border opening. SANA.
