Mubarak starts his European tour

Egyptian President Mubarak today starts a tour of three European countries Germany, Romania and Russia for talks with the leaders of those countries on the situation in the Middle East and bilateral relations between Egypt and those countries.

Foreign Minister Amr Moussa said President Mubarak's tour acquires a special significance adding that Mubarak tops his talks priorities with the volatile situation in the Middle East and the significance attached by Egypt to the strong role of the European Union in maintaining balance of the peace process.

Moussa said President Mubarak would discuss with the leaders of the States he will visit, the topics tackled by the latest Arab summit such as Iraq issue, collective Arab economic cooperation and the economic conference that will be held in Cairo.

President Mubarak will arrive in Bonn at 13.30 p.m. (Berlin time). In 17.50, the President will have a round of open talks with German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder at the latter's residence far from any protocol procedures.

The Director of Information at the German government described President Mubarak's visit to Berlin as very important, adding that the German government welcomes and looks forward to fruitful talks with the Egyptian side during the visit.

Egypt's Ambassador to Germany Mahmoud Mubarak said President Mubarak would explain to Chancellor Schroeder the Egyptian standpoint of the situation in the Middle East and the German-European role for containing the current deterioration in the Middle East and maintaining stability in the light of organic linkage between security and stability in the Middle East and security and stability in Europe.

Ambassador Mahmoud Mubarak said in an interview with Al Ahram that Egypt was calling for developing positive aspects in EU policy.

President Mubarak is due to meet a number of writers and commentators in German newspapers before leaving Berlin for Romania on a one-day official visit.

President Mubarak will arrive in Moscow on Thursday for talks with Senior Egyptian Officials and Russian President Vladimir Putin on the deteriorating situation in the Middle East and the role that could be played by Moscow for reactivating the peace process.

Russian ambassador in Cairo Andre Denesove said President Mubarak's talks would focus on Iraq, globalization, disarmament and non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

The ambassador said the Russian leadership is highly interested in listening to President Mubarak's views on these ssues.

He said talks would also tackle on political issues, and economic relations.

He said an Egyptian Economic delegation under Minister of Economy Dr. Youssef Butros Ghali is currently visiting Moscow for discussing economic cooperation and the establishment of joint ventures.

The-two sides will sign a number of economic cooperation agreements covering the fields of technology, trade, industry and economy.
