King Mohammed vows to follow up recommendations of African first ladies' summit

Morocco's King Mohammed VI pledged to spare no effort to follow up the recommendations made by the summit of African First ladies, held in Marrakesh April 20-22 under the topic "the little Girl, a Global Movement for Africa's Development."
King Mohammed VI made the pledge when he received Monday at the royal palace in Fez Princess Lalla Meriem, Chairwoman of the summit, who presented to the king the general report on the summit works and recommendations as well as the Marrakesh Declaration adopted by the African first ladies.
Princess Lalla Meriem, sister to the king and chairwoman of the national observatory for children's rights, expressed thanks and gratitude of participating First Ladies to King Mohammed VI for having organized the summit and for the conditions gathered to ensure the success of the event.
The participants in the summit pledged to uphold the promotion, protection and consecration of the rights of the African little girl, and called for the eradication of all forms of gender-based discrimination and for a general mobilization to promote schooling and fight illiteracy which is still highly affecting little girls in the continent. They also called for guaranteeing access to medical care, promoting reproductive health and fostering awareness to the danger of Aids.
They also pleaded for a comprehensive development strategy, geared towards sustained human development and priority to women and girls and recommended the consolidation of democratic institutions and the promotion of human rights, the preservation of peace through the peaceful settlement of conflicts and the promotion of the culture of coexistence, tolerance, dialogue and peace.
