More Arab tourists visit Morocco, numbers still low
Morocco-Regional, Economics, 4/24/2001

Tourists from the Middle-East and the Gulf are showing more interest in Morocco, as evidenced by the rise in their number.

According the Moroccan tourism office (ONT-governmental), the number of Arab tourists to Morocco went up by 14.9 percent between January and February 2001 compared to the same period a year before.

Some 9,319 Middle-East and Arab Gulf tourists visited Morocco in this period, the office said, specifying that Saudis top the list with 4,495 visitors, followed by the Egyptians.

The source attributes the rise to the strong promotion campaign Morocco conducted in the Gulf to bring in more tourists.
