Israel's boycott office postpones meeting
Regional-Syria, Economics, 4/24/2001
The BBC correspondent in Damascus said that the delay of most of the Arab states from taking place in the meeting of the Israel's boycott office in Damascus was a real test for these countries following the recent Amman's Arab summit, which adopted the decision of boycotting Israel, at Syria's request and also agreed to convene a meeting called upon by the main boycott office in Damascus.
Observers consider the postponement of the boycott office meeting as a new setback for the Arab stand which Syria boosts towards pressuring the Israeli government so as to abide by UN resolutions and the ME peace basics following the tension resulted from the Israeli raid against a Syrian radar in Dahr al-Baidar (Lebanon).
The observers added that canceling the meeting without setting a new date created a great regret and disappointment among the Arab public.
Syria's representative at the Arab League AL in Cairo Youssef Ahmad said that 12 Arab states have refused to take part in the meeting of Israel's boycott office while only 10 states approved. But Ahmad refused to mention the names of countries which refused the convening of the meeting.
